DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Mount Union baseball team earned a pair of shutout-wins during its Florida trip on Friday. The Purple Raiders won, 6-0, over Hope in game one and 10-0 in seven innings over Husson in the nightcap.
Junior
Brady Hansen (Beaver, Pa. / Beaver Area) pitched 8.1 scoreless innings in game one, only allowing four hits and striking out a career-high 11. Hansen improved to 3-0 on the season. Junior
Joe Lenart (Cleveland, Ohio / Garfield Heights) went 2-for-3 with an RBI. The game was scoreless through five innings, before the Purple Raiders scored two in the sixth, one in the seventh, and three in the eighth.
Sophomore
Leo Fornara (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Chagrin Falls) threw a 2-hit shutout through six innings in game two, while striking out nine. Fornara improved to 3-1. Mount led 10-0 after three, including a nine-run third inning – sparked by Lenart who had a three-run double.
Mount Union (8-3) finishes its Florida trip on Saturday with a doubleheader. First up will be against Salve Regina at 3:45 PM, followed by Stockton at 7 PM.
