ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union men's lacrosse team fell to Muskingum 13-12 in a tightly contested Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday evening.
The Purple Raiders (6-9, 2-5 OAC) were led by
Grant Dunmire (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Hampton) with four goal and
Obrigh Tallchief (Angola, N.Y. / LakeShore) with three goals.
Liam Erwin (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior) scored two goals while
Mark Zusman (Willoughby / Willoughby South),
Spencer Logsdon (Akron / Archbishop Hoban) and
Braylon Li (Richfield / Revere) each had a goal for Mount Union.
Stephen Moschetta (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Trinity) started in goal making three saves while
Logan Gunderman (Buffalo, N.Y. / Hamburg) played the second half making five saves.
Leading Muskingum (8-6, 2-5 OAC) was Spencer Zecchini with two goals and two assist while Trevor Connolly made 24 saves.
After an hour and fifty-minute lightning delay to begin the game, the Purple Raiders got on the board first with a goal from Dunmire. Muskingum responded with four straight goals. The scoring wasn't done in the first period as Dunmire got his second of the day. Muskingum grabbed three more before the quarter was done and Zusman scored for Mount Union making it 7-3.
The second quarter saw a Muskingum goal to start but a goal from Logsdon and then Dunmire brought it to within three at 8-5. Two more goals for each team as Dunmire and Li scored for Mount Union trailing 10-6 at halftime.
The third quarter saw a goal from each team as Erwin scored for Mount Union. The fourth saw two goals from Tallchief to start and getting Mount Union within one at 11-10 but two goals from Muskingum looked to closed the game out with 1:03 left leading 13-10. Mount Union had one more comeback as Tallchief scored with 50 second left and Erwin scored with just one second left to drop the 13-12 contest.
Mount Union will head on the road to take on Ohio Northern in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday, April 20th at 1 p.m.
