NEW CONCORD, Ohio—The Mount Union women's lacrosse team defeated Muskingum 21-4 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday evening.
After an hour and forty minute lightning delay to begin the game the Purple Raiders finished victorious and clinched a spot in the OAC Tournament.
The Purple Raiders (9-3, OAC 4-1) were led by and junior
Mackenzie Kolstad with five goals while seniors
Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) and
Eden Kesler (Chargin Falls / Kenston) with four goals each.
Sophomore
Ella Nejad (Rocky River) and junior
Emily Funk (Strongsville) each had two goals for the Raiders. Each getting one goal for the Raiders was graduate student
Britta Treu (Auburn Township / Kenston), senior
Isabella Robatin (Brecksville / Brecksville-Broadview Heights), junior
Ella Sinopoli (Honeoye Falls, N.Y. / Honeoye Falls-Lima), and freshman
Ruby Robatin (Brecksville / Brecksville-Broadview Heights).
Abby Lindkvist (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Harborfields) had 11 saves for the Raiders.
Leading Muskingum (7-8, OAC 0-6) was Megan Lang with three goals and Riley Zwagerman with one goal.
FIRST QUARTER
Mount Union was able to shutout Muskingum while scoring nine in the first quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
Mount Union continued on their streak and energy into the second quarter adding four more goals to the score. However, Muskingum was finally able to get a point on the board making the score 13-1 with Mount Union still leading heading into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER
The Purple Raiders were able to bounce back from the ending of the previous quarter completing a 5-0 scoring run to extend their lead 18-1. The Muskies were not giving up and were able to finish the quarter off with another goal making the score going into the final quarter of the game 18-2.
FOURTH QUARTER
The Raiders went on a 3-0 scoring run making the score 21-2 while Muskingum was able to finish strong getting the last 2 goals of the game making the final score 21-4.
Mount Union will return home to take on Ohio Northern in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday, April 20th at 1 p.m. and will be honoring their seniors.
