UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio—The Mount Union women's lacrosse team earned a share of the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season title Wednesday evening after defeating John Carroll 13- 7 in an OAC matchup.
Senior
Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) earned her 322nd career point and became the all-time leader in career points in Mount Union history with a goal just 52 seconds into the game.
The Purple Raiders (11-3, OAC 6-1) were led by senior
Eden Kesler (Chargin Falls / Kenston) with four goals, Clark and sophomore
Ella Nejad (Rocky River) with three goals each. Junior
Emily Funk (Strongsville) had two goals for the Raiders, while senior
Tara Santoro (Canfield) had one goal.
Abby Lindkvist (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Harborfields) once again tied her career-high with 15 saves for the second straight game for the Raiders. Santoro finished with four ground balls while senior
Gillian Maffit (Mentor) finished with three.
Leading John Carroll (7-7, OAC 3-4) was Olivia Hanulak with four goals. While Riley Knapp, Kathleen Cagney, and Vivian Rung each had one goal.
FIRST QUARTER
Mount Union was able to get the first goal of the game from Clark. John Carroll was quick to respond with a goal of their own. After a lot of back and forth, John Carroll was able to go on a 2-0 scoring run towards the end of the quarter going into the break 5-3 with Mount Union trailing behind.
SECOND QUARTER
Mount Union was able to shout out John Carroll and take control of the game going on a 5-0 scoring run making the score 8-5 going into halftime as Kesler has two while Funk, Nejad and Clark each scoring a goal.
THIRD QUARTER
The Raiders continued their scoring run coming out of halftime getting two goals to extend their lead 10-5. John Carroll was able to get another point on the board, however, the Purple Raiders answered getting one more goal going into the final quarter leading 11-6.
FOURTH QUARTER
The Raiders shut down John Carroll in the fourth outscoring the hosts 2-1 the final quarter to end the game 13-7.
Mount Union now will get a week of rest as they will host the winner of the No. 3 seed Otterbein and No. 6 Ohio Northern game on Wednesday, May 1st at 7 PM in the OAC Tournament Semifinal.
