Women's Lacrosse: Lindkvist Breaks Single Season Saves Record; Raiders Head to OAC Championship

ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's lacrosse team advanced to the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Championship defeating Otterbein 16-14 Wednesday night at Kehres Stadium.
 
Junior goalie Abby Lindkvist (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Harborfields) picked up 13 saves in the win and broke her own single season school record with 149 saves currently.
 
The Purple Raiders (11-3) were led by sophomore Ella Nejad (Rocky River) with five goals and senior Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) with four goals and five assists.
 
Junior Emily Funk (Strongsville) scored three goals, senior Tara Santoro (Canfield) scored two while senior Eden Kesler (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) and junior Mackenzie Kolstad (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior) each scored a goal.
 
Otterbein (10-6) was led by Carli Rigel with six goals and an assist while Maggie Nance made nine saves in goal.
 
First Quarter
Mount Union jumped out to a 5-1 lead within the first 4:38 of the game as Clark scored three for a hat trick while Santoro and Kesler each scored a goal. Otterbein responded with the final five goals of the quarter taking a 6-5 lead into the second quarter.
 
Second Quarter
Mount Union got early goals once again this time by Enjad and Kolstad to take a 7-6 lead. Otterbein responded with a goal to tie the game but two goals from Nejad and Funk each gave Mount Union an 11-7 lead at the halftime break.
 
Third Quarter
Mount Union got its largest lead of the game when Nejad scored two to start the third leading 13-7. Over the final 3:58 Mount Union outscored Otterbein 3-2 with a goal from Santoro, Clark and Funk taking a 16-9 lead into the final quarter.
 
Fourth Quarter
Otterbein put the pressure on Mount Union scoring five goals in the final quarter but was not enough as Mount Union held onto the 16-14 win.
 
Mount Union will now take on the top seed in the OAC in Capital as they defeated the No. 4 seed Baldwin Wallace 22-9. That game will be played on Saturday at a time to be determined in Bexley, Ohio.
