ALLAINCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's soccer team defeated Bethany 3-1 in their home opener on Sunday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (1-1) struck first when freshman
Amir Spratt (Kent / Kent Roosevelt) netted his first career goal in the 20
th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Mount Union would add to that lead in the 75
th minute when junior
Nyiles Spann (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) found the back of the net off an assist from junior
Braedon Kennedy (Strongsville). Then, in the 87
th minute fifth year
Carter Hancock (Amherst / Marion L. Steele) scored to increase the lead to 3-0.
The Bison (0-1) wouldn't have an answer over the final four minutes of action as Mount Union would go on to win 3-0.
Senior goalkeeper
Lucas Fields (West Chester / Lakota East) recorded his first shutout of the season in the victory.
The Raiders are home again next when they host Allegheny on Saturday, September 7 at 1 p.m. in the first game of the Mount Union Classic at Kehres Stadium.
