Men's Soccer: Raiders Shutout Bethany in Home Opening Win

ALLAINCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's soccer team defeated Bethany 3-1 in their home opener on Sunday afternoon.

The Purple Raiders (1-1) struck first when freshman Amir Spratt (Kent / Kent Roosevelt) netted his first career goal in the 20th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Mount Union would add to that lead in the 75th minute when junior Nyiles Spann (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) found the back of the net off an assist from junior Braedon Kennedy (Strongsville). Then, in the 87th minute fifth year Carter Hancock (Amherst / Marion L. Steele) scored to increase the lead to 3-0.

The Bison (0-1) wouldn't have an answer over the final four minutes of action as Mount Union would go on to win 3-0.

Senior goalkeeper Lucas Fields (West Chester / Lakota East) recorded his first shutout of the season in the victory.

The Raiders are home again next when they host Allegheny on Saturday, September 7 at 1 p.m. in the first game of the Mount Union Classic at Kehres Stadium.
