Men's Soccer: Raiders Edge Franciscan at Home

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's soccer team defeated Franciscan 3-2 in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday evening.

The Barons (3-1-2) struck first when Lucas Cross was able to net a goal in the 33rd minute to take a 1-0 lead.

The Purple Raiders (5-2) would answer quickly, scoring in the 37th minute off a penalty kick from sophomore Dom Kustura (Willowick / Eastlake North) to tie the game at a goal apiece. Then, just 19 seconds later Kustura would find junior Braedon Kennedy (Strongsville) to give Mount Union their first lead of the game. The Raiders would then add to that lead in the 65th minute when Kennedy netted his second goal of the game this time coming off an assist from junior Reese Utter (Dover) to extend the lead to two.

Franciscan would answer with a goal in the 81st minute, scoring off the foot of Ryan Miller to cut the lead down to a goal but that is as close as they would get as Mount Union would go on to win 3-2.

The Raiders hit the road next when they travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. On Saturday, September 21 to take on Calvin at 3 p.m.
