BEXLEY, Ohio—The mount Union women's basketball team fell 73-60 on the road against Capital in Ohio Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (7-10, 2-8 OAC) were led by
Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) with 17 points while McKayla Dunkle (Cadiz / Harrison Central) finished with 11 points.
Capital (14-3, 8-2 OAC) was led by Bri O'Connor with 23 points while Samaree Perkins finished with 20 points.
Mount Union was outscored 22-13 in the first quarter of play and 21-13 in the second quarter as they trailed 43-26 at the half.
The third quarter Mount Union came out firing scoring the first seven points to get within 10 in the first 2:13 of the quarter. Capital pushed the lead out to 18 twice but another 7-0 run from Mount Union got the game within 11 but a three from Capital ended the quarter as Mount Union trailed 58-44.
The fourth quarter began with a 6-2 run for Capital, but Mount Union found some footing once again as they went on a 9-0 run closing to within nine with 3:35 remaining. Two back-to-back threes from O'Connor however sealed the deal for Capital as they took home the 73-60 win.
Mount Union returns home on Wednesday to take on Marietta at 7 PM in OAC play.
