WESTERVILLE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's basketball team fell to Otterbein 62-51 on Saturday in Ohio Athletic Conference play.
The Purple Raiders (5-6, 0-4 OAC) were led by
Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) with 22 points while
Dae Dae Nash (Akron / Buchtel) finished with 10 points.
Otterbein (7-4, 3-1 OAC) was led by Kathleen DeCarlo and Kyla Irby with 18 points each.
A
Mckayla Dunkle (Cadiz / Harrison Central) jumper and a layup from Mason gave Mount Union an early 4-3 lead. Otterbein pushed the lead out to 18-11 on an 8-2 run to end the quarter.
Mount Union got a driving layup from Nash and a jumper from Mason to close the lead down to three to start the second quarter. Both teams held each other scoreless for three straight minutes as
Lily Scott (Youngstown / Ursuline) made a free throw to end the scoreless streak. Mount Union ended the half on a 7-3 run just trailing 27-25.
Otterbein got off to an 8-2 run in the third quarter taking a 35-27 lead. A 5-0 run from
Abby Muckleroy (Canfield) got the Raiders within three at 35-32 with 2:18 remaining in the third quarter. Both teams exchanged baskets in the final couple minutes with Mount Union trailing 40-36.
Mount Union could not get any closer than four on two occasions early in the fourth quarter as Otterbein used an 11-4 run to grab a 16-point lead.
Mount Union will head to Marietta on Wednesday, January 8
th with a 7 PM tip off to continue OAC play.
