Mount Union is set to host Muhlenberg in the 2025 NCAA Playoffs Second Round. The Purple Raiders, who are first in the NCAA Power Index (NPI) rankings, earned a first round bye. Muhlenberg (9-2) outlasted Union in the NCAA First Round last week, 34-26. Saturday's meeting will be the third ever between the two programs, with all three meetings occurring in the playoffs. The previous two match-ups happened in the NCAA Quarterfinals, with Mount Union winning them both—including a 35-29 overtime win in 2021. The Purple Raiders (10-0), who earned their 34th overall and ninth-straight undefeated regular season, won their league-record 36th Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championship to secure the conference's NCAA automatic qualifying bid for this year's NCAA Playoffs. Mount Union has a 116-22 (.841) record all-time in NCAA playoff games, advancing to the Stagg Bowl 23 times since 1993 with an NCAA-record 13 National Championships. Mount Union has now made the tournament an NCAA-record 36 times. Muhlenberg, out of the Centennial Conference (CC), earned an at-large bid to this year's playoffs. The Mules' only two losses were to the teams ranked seventh (Johns Hopkins) and ninth (Franklin & Marshall) in the NPI rankings. Muhlenberg is 27th in the NPI rankings. The bid to the NCAA Tournament is the 11th for Muhlenberg, all since 2002. The Mules are 10-10 all-time in their NCAA appearances, including advancing to the 2019 Semifinals. Saturday's second round game will be broadcast exclusively on ESPN+.
