Women's Basketball: Raiders Use Hot Shooting to Run Away From Wilmington

ALLIANCE, Ohio—Mount Union's women's basketball used hot shooting and suffocating defense to take down Wilmington 83-38 in Ohio Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon.
 
The Purple Raiders (9-10, 4-8 OAC) were led by Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) with 17 points while Cheslea Evanich (Alliance / Marlington) finished with a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Abby Muckleroy (Canfield) finished the game with 11 points while Dae Dae Nash (Akron / Bucthel) finished with seven points, seven rebounds and six assists.
 
Wilmington (6-13, 3-9 OAC) was led by Stephanie Altstaetter with eight points.
 
Mount Union led 20-11 after the first quarter as they connected on eight shots for 57% from the field while Wilmington had just five shots made and shot 38%.
 
Mount Union held Wilmington to 26% in the second quarter with just four shots made while Mount Union connected on seven shots and 41% as they outscored Wilmington 20-9 taking a 40-20 lead into the halftime.
 
The third quarter saw Mount Union outscore Wilmington 23-12. Mount Union connected on six shots and was 40% from the field but also shot nine of 10 from the free throw line in the quarter while Wilmington shot 36% and made four buckets.
 
The final quarter Mount Union held Wilmington to just six free throws outscoring them 20-6. Mount Union made nine shots in the quarter for 47%.
 
The Purple Raiders now head up to University Heights to take on John Carroll on Wednesday at 7 PM.
