ALLAINCE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's team dominated Muskingum in an 82-61 Ohio Athletic Conference win Wednesday night at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
The Purple Raiders (11-11, 6-9 OAC) were led by led by
Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) with 23 points and eight rebounds.
Dae Dae Nash (Akron / Buchtel) finished with 12 points and five steals while
Abby Muckleroy (Canfield) and
Kayla Ferancy (Amherst / Amherst Steele) finished with 11 and 10 points.
Muskingum (4-18, 2-13 OAC) was led by Makiya Edwards with 16 points and Julia Jaenke with 14 points.
Muskingum got out to leads of 8-to-3 and 10-to-5 but a 6-0 run for Mount Union got its first lead of the night. Muskingum grabbed the lead again at 17-15 but a 4-0 run from Mason ended the quarter as Mount Union led 19-17.
Mount Union got two more buckets to begin the second quarter taking a 23-17 lead. Muskingum got within one point but a 16-0 run for Mount Union gave them a 39-22 lead. Both teams traded baskets the rest of the quarter as Mount Union took a 43-25 halftime lead.
Mount Union outscored Muskingum 30-15 in the third quarter with their largest lead being 35 at 73-38 with 26 second remaining in the quarter. Muskingum outscored Mount Union 21-9 in the final quarter but was not enough as Mount Union held the lead over 20 points the final five minutes.
Mount Union will now head to Tiffin, Ohio to take on Heidelberg in OAC play on Saturday with a 1 PM start time.
