ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's basketball team defeated Baldwin Wallace 83-69 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday evening.
The Purple Raiders (17-7, 14-3 OAC) had five players score in double figures with fifth-year
Christian Parker (Canton / GlenOak) leading the way with 19 points. Junior
Kevin Moore (Youngstown / Campbell Memorial) and freshman
Chance Casenhiser (Uniontown / Lake) both scored 18 points with senior
Marcus Steele (Solon) adding 12 and sophomore
Elijah Farrington (Massillon / Massillon Washington) scored 10 points to round out the Raiders in double digits.
The Yellow Jackets (10-14, 6-11 OAC) were led by AJ Pestello who scored a game-high 24 points, Ray Ellington added in 16 and Braylan McClardy scored 11 points.
Both teams would trade baskets over the first nine and a half minutes of the first half before Baldwin Wallace would go on an 11-1 run over the next 4:38 of game time to take an eight-point 28-20 lead with just over six minutes remaining in the half. The Yellow Jackets would maintain their lead over the next four and a half minutes before Mount Union would close the half on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 39-35 heading into the halftime break.
The Raiders would open the second half with a 10-2 run to reclaim the lead at 45-41 with 17:04 remaining in the game. Mount Union would maintain their slim lead over the next six minutes of action before stretching their lead out to nine with seven and a half minutes left to play in the game. Baldwin Wallace wouldn't be able to get closer than seven over the final seven minutes of action as the Raiders would go on to win 83-69.
The Raiders are home again next when they host Ohio Northern for Senior Day on Saturday, February 22 at 3 p.m., with Senior Day starting approximately 15 minutes before tip-off in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
