WESTFIELD, Ind. - The Mount Union baseball team began its 2025 season with a 9-5 victory over Case Western Reserve University held at a neutral site in Westfield, Indiana, at Westfield Grand Parks.
Starting pitcher Zach Breeden (Cincinnati, Ohio / Elder) dazzled, pitching seven innings, striking out eight batters, and allowing just one run. The Purple Raiders' offense surged during a five-run sixth inning. Senior third baseman Chris Viamonte, from Naples, Florida, made a clutch hit by hitting a two-run double along the left-field line. Viamonte ended the game with a 1-for-3 performance, tallying two RBIs and drawing two walks.
Sophomore Brycen Fox (Hamilton, Ohio / Badin) had a strong performance, going two for two and a walk with an RBI single slapped into left field. Graduate
Jaired Lehman (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) went one for three with a double and two walks.
Mount Union returns to action tomorrow with a noon matchup against Monmouth College and a 2:30 pm matchup against Rose-Hulman.
