EIRE, Pennsylvania—Head Coach
Matt Mihelic and the Mount Union men's volleyball team earned their 100th career and program win in a sweep, 25-17, 26-24 and 25-22, of Penn State Behrend Tuesday night.
Mihelic has been at the helm from the start of the program which includes an overall record of 100-62, 38-7 in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball league and a NCAA Tournament appearance in 2022.
The Purple Raiders (12-8, 1-0 MCVL) were led by
Michael Bowler (Broadview Heights / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) with 11 kills and
Jacob Nussdorfer (Lewis Center / Olentangy)with nine kills.
Will Heeney (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) picked up 26 assists while
Peyton Koszelak (Eden, N.Y. / Eden) led the way in digs with 12 and
Jack McClure (Massillon / Jackson) picked up 10 digs.
Penn State Behrend (6-12) was led by Kyle Hoffman with six kills, Luke Mumpower with 20 assists and Cameron Schleicher with six digs.
Mount Union dominated the stats as they had 41 kills to Behrend's 26 which led to a hitting percentage of .294 to .157 in favor of Mount Union. Mount Union also picked up 45 digs to Behrend's 22 and had 38 assists compared to Behrend's 26.
Mount Union will return to MCVL play next week with two home games on Friday, March 14
th at 7 PM against Mount St. Joseph and Saturday, March 15
th against Wittenberg at 1 PM.
