Women's Lacrosse: Raiders Shut Down Capital in OAC Battle

BEXLEY, Ohio—Mount Union's women's lacrosse team won 24-12 over Capital in a rematch of last years Ohio Athletic Conference championship Friday afternoon.
 
The Purple Raiders picked up their first win against Capital in the past three games with their last win being April 1, 2023.
 
Mount Union (11-4, 5-1 OAC) was led by Ella Nejad (Rocky River) and Eden Kesler (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) each scored six goals.
 
Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) picked up eight points with six assists and two goals. Liz Schumacher (Columbus / Upper Arlington) scored two goals and had three assists, Mackenzie Kolstad (Victor, N.Y. / Victor), Emma Labbe (Uniontown / Lake), Reese Fuenfstueck (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport) and Emily Funk (Strongsville) each scored two goals.
 
Nejad led the way with four ground balls, Kesler had eight draw controls with Emma Grell (Mars, Pa. / Mars Area) causing two turnovers. Abby Lindkvist (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Harborfields) went the distance in goal making eight saves.
 
Mount Union held Capital's (8-5, 4-2 OAC) Grace Osborn to a season low in goals and assists with just three goals and one assist. Osborn is the Division III leader in points per game with just over 10 points per game including 8.25 goals per game.
 
Mount Union jumped out to a 10-4 lead after one quarter of play. Mount Union then extended the lead out to 17-8 at the halftime break.
 
Mount Union came out of the halftime break and extended its lead out to 21-9. The final quarter Mount Union held its own with three goals for each team.
 
Mount Union will return home to take on John Carroll at 4 PM on Wednesday in a battle of the top two teams of the OAC.
