Women’s Lacrosse: Raiders Grab Share of OAC Regular Season Title Handing John Carroll its First Regular Season Loss of the Season

ALLIANCE, Ohio—Mount Union's women's lacrosse team handed No. 9 ranked John Carroll its first Ohio Athletic Conference and regular season loss of the season 16-10 while also grabbing a share of the OAC Regular Season Title and the one seed in the OAC Tournament.
 
With the 16-10 win Wednesday afternoon at Kehres Stadium Mount Union picked up the one seed due to having the head-to-head tie breaker over John Carroll.
 
The Purple Raiders (12-4, 6-1 OAC) was led by Ella Nejad (Rocky River) with four goals and nine points, three goals and six assists, from Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit).
 
Liz Schumacher (Columbus / Upper Arlington) and Eden Kesler (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) each scored three goals while Reese Fuenfstueck (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport) and Emma Labbe (Uniontown / Lake) scored two goals and one goal respectively.
 
Labbe finished the game with seven ground balls while Emma Grell (Mars, Pa. / Mars Area) had four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
 
Abby Lindkvist (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Harborfields) made 10 saves in goal picking up the victory for Mount Union.
 
John Carroll (14-1, 6-1 OAC) was led by Riley Knapp with three goals, Jill McDonnell with three caused turnovers and Rachel Kroeger was in goal making 10 saves.
 
John Carroll jumped out to leads of 1-0 and 3-2 but Mount Union responded at the end of the quarter to tie the game up on a Fuenfstueck goal.
 
Mount Union got the first three goals of the quarter as Kesler had two goals and Nejad had a goal to lead 6-3. John Carroll grabbed one goal before Fuenfstueck found the back of the net once again. John Carroll finished the quarter off with two goals as Mount Union had a 7-6 lead.
 
The third quarter Mount Union shut out John Carroll and scored four goals as Schumacher, Clark, Labbe and Kesler each scored a goal to take an 11-6 lead.
 
In the fourth quarter Mount Union put the game out of reach as Schumacher scored a goal and Nejad scored the next two goals leading 14-6. John Carroll scored the next four goals but a goal from Nejad and Schumacher finished the game off.
 
Mount Union will head into the OAC Tournament as the one seed and will await the winner of the four and five seed. Mount Union will host that game on Wednesday next week at 7 PM.
