ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's soccer team defeated non-conference opponent Waynesburg 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (2-0) would get on the board first when senior
AJ Jaber (Massillon / Massillon Jackson) was able to find junior
Alex Depperschmidt (Mansfield / Lexington) for a goal in the 27
th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Mount Union would then add a second goal in the 31
st minute this time scoring off the foot of senior
Zander Plizga (Gibsonia, Pa. / Hampton) to increase the lead to two goals.
The Yellow Jackets (0-2) responded in the 78
th minute when Taylor McFarland was able to find the back of the net to cut the lead to just a goal. However, Waynesburg wasn't able to score the equalizer over the final 12 minutes as Mount Union would go on to win 2-1.
The Raiders hit the road next when they travel to Lexington, Ky. to take on Hanover on Saturday, September 6 at 3:30 p.m.
