Men's Volleyball: Raiders Fall In Competitive Match Against MSOE

ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union men's volleyball dropped a competitive three set match, 28-26, 27-25 and 25-20, against Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) Saturday morning.
 
Both teams have a lot in common both teams went into the match today receiving votes in the top 25, having high aspirations for 2026, and being nicknamed the Raiders. For the Mount Union Purple Raiders, it was their second game of the season. The first being a four set win over Geneva College. For the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) Raiders, it was their first game of the 2026 season. Mount Union and MSOE are both coming off strong seasons; each team made it to their conference championship game in 2025, with Mount Union winning theirs and MSOE being defeated. MSOE is picked to finish 2nd in the NACC this year and Mount Union is picked to win the MCVL yet again.
 
Mount Union (1-1) was led by freshman Ryan Lippert (Twinsburg / Walsh Jesult) with 10 kills. Freshman Justin Peters (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) led the team with 26 assists while Peyton Koszelak (Eden, N.Y.) finished with 13 digs.
 
MSOE (1-0) was led by Callan Harris with nine kills, Parker Rings with 37 assists and Seth Thomas with nine digs.
 
Set one could not have been more competitive. Throughout the course of the set, neither side ever led by more than two points, and it ended up as a 28-26 MSOE win. Callan Harris, who was 2025 1st team all NACC, led MSOE with four kills and eight attacks. Parker Rings, 2025 2nd team all NACC, racked up 14 assists in set one. For Mount Union in set one, Ryan Lippert led with five kills on nine attacks as well as two digs and a block. From the score being 11-10 until 19-17, neither team led by more than a point as well as from 19-17 until the end of the set where MSOE won 28-26.
 
Set two was just as intense, if not more than set one. MSOE got out to a 3-0 lead early but Mount Union answered quickly to tie it back up at 3-3. Things were tight until 7-7 where MSOE then went on a 3-0 run to lead 10-7. Mount Union quickly tied things back up at 12 and took their first lead of the set at 13-12. An ace by MSOE's Callan Harris gave MSOE the lead back at 15-14 and from there it was back and forth. Mount Union took a 17-16 lead which was taken right back by the visitors at 18-17. An ace by Seth Thomas gave MSOE a 21-19 lead and Mount Union looked to be on the ropes. From there, some close calls were made which brought up the intensity of the set and MSOE led 24-22, needing just one more to take a 2-0 set lead. Mount Union then tied things up at 24 but MSOE closed it out winning the second set 27-25.
 
Set three was, of course, another close one. Mount Union got out to a quick 3-1 lead thanks to back-to-back kills by Sam Morrison, but immediately MSOE tied it back up at 3-3. The set was tight until 8-8 where MSOE took two straight points to go up 10-8. Mount Union tied it up at 11-11 after that but MSOE just kept answering. The visitors led 13-11, and Mount Union clawed back to tie at 17-17 after a big kill by Sam Morrison. The Purple Raiders then took their first lead since 3-2 at 18-17, but MSOE answered right away and never looked back. The visiting Raiders ended up winning the third and final set 25-20.
 
Mount Union remains home next Tuesday taking on Grove City at 7 pm.
