ALLIANCE, Ohio— The no. 9 nationally ranked Mount Union men's basketball team won an Ohio Athletic Conference game versus Heidelberg 85-67 on Wednesday evening.
The Purple Raiders (21-2, 12-2 OAC) had five players with double digit scoring and were led by senior
Kevin Moore (Youngstown / Campbell Memorial) who scored a game-high 19 points, shooting an excellent 5-9 from 3-point range. Freshman Cam Weekly (Massillon / Jackson) adding 14 points off the bench shooting 4-7 from 3-point range. Sophomore
Elijah Farrington (Massillon / Washington) would score 12 points,
Chance Casenhiser (Uniontown / Lake) added 11 points and
Kevin Hamilton (Akron / St. Vincent St. Mary) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.
The Student Princes (11-11, 5-8 OAC) had four players in double digits and were led by Marcos Vazquez & Trey Killens who both scored a team high 13 points, Brady Bosma added 11 points and rounding out the double-digit scorers was Jarveil Gainey who had 10 points.
Mount Union would jump out to a 14-9 lead over the first four and a half minutes of game time. Mount Union would extend their lead to 22-15 with 11:47 left in the first half. With 4:33 left in the first half, Mount Union grew their lead to 38-22 with back-to-back triples by freshman Cam Weekly. Mount Union would lengthen their lead to 50-26 with a strong first half led by
Kevin Moore tallying 14 points.
After the halftime intermission, the Purple Raiders continued to hold a strong lead 60-35 with 13:58 left in the game. Over the next 9 minutes of the game, the Student Princes went on a 23-15 run and trimmed the lead down to 75-58 with 4:43 left in the game. Mount Union would close the game out and win with a final score of 85-67.
The Raiders are home again this upcoming Saturday, February 14th, and will suit up against the Wilmington Quakers on senior night.
