TIFFIN, Ohio—The Mount Union women's basketball team took down Heidelberg 85-64 Wednesday night in Ohio Athletic Conference play clinching a spot in the OAC women's basketball tournament.
The Purple Raiders (15-8, 7-7 OAC) were led by
Lily Scott (Youngstown / Ursuline) with 11 points and
Reese Triplett (New Philadelphia / Tuscarawas Central Catholic) with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Heidelberg (1-20, 0-13 OAC) was led by Tori See with 29 points with eight rebounds.
Heidelberg began the game on a 5-0 run, but Mount Union responded with a 9-0 run as four raiders scored in the run taking the lead. After a Berg bucket Mount Union had three more Raiders score taking a 16-7 lead. Berg finished the quarter on a 5-0 run as Mount Union led 16-12 at the end of the first.
Mount Union dominated the second quarter, outscoring Berg 24-8 with runs of 4-0, 5-0, 7-0 and 8-0 as Scott scored 11 points in the quarter. Mount Union held Berg to just 18% from the floor in the quarter while converting on 50% of their shots.
Mount Union pushed its lead out to 49-22 on a 9-2 run to start the third quarter as Triplett scored five in the run. Later on, in the quarter Mount Union went on an 11-0 run as four different Raiders scored. Mount Union led 62-36 after the third quarter. Over the final quarter Mount Union was outscored xx-xx but finished out the victory.
Mount Union returns home on Saturday for Senior Day as they will take on Wilmington at 3 PM.
