Women's Basketball: Raiders Pick Up Senior Day Victory

 ALLIANCE, Ohio—The mount Union women's basketball team took down Wilmington 80-57 in Ohio Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon.
 
Mount Union (16-8, 8-7 OAC) honored its three seniors in Makayla Dunkle (Cadiz / Harrison Central), Sierra Schlosser (Galloway / Bishop Ready), Audrey Livesay (Akron / Revere) and Ciena Matheny before the game.
 
The Purple Raiders were led by Chelsea Evanich (Alliance / Marlington) with a career-high 21 points. Reese Triplett (New Philadelphia / Tuscarawas Central Catholic) finished with 11 points while Dunkle, Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) and Bree McCabe (Massillon / Tuslaw) each scored eight points.
 
Wilmington (6-17, 3-11 OAC) was led by Jazz Johnson with 17 points.
 
Wilmington jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead, but Mount Union responded with a three from Evanich and a layup from Mason to take the lead. A bucket from Wilmington gave them the lead but a 10-0 run for Mount Union with Dunkle and McCabe scoring four each gave the Raiders a 15-6 lead. Wilmington responded with a 9-3 run to end the quarter.
 
Wilmington closed within one point at 18-17 but Mount Union responded with an 11-0 run as five Raiders scored in the run taking a 29-17 lead. Both teams battled over the final five minutes with neither going on a big run with Mount Union leading 39-27 at halftime.
 
Mount Union jumped out to a quick start in the third quarter with a 7-0 run as Evanich scored four and Triplett got a three. Wilmington closed to within 12 with 4:52 remaining in the quarter. Mount Union pushed the lead back out to 17 but Wilmington closed to within 12 once again before Triplett hit a layup to end the quarter with Mount Union leading 59-45.
 
Mount Union put the game away with a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter as Wilmington could only get within 19 just once in the final quarter as Mount Union took home the victory.
 
Mount Union will have its season finale on Wednesday at home taking on Capital at 7 PM.
