Men's Volleyball: Road Warriors; Raiders Take Down No. 18 Buffalo State in Five Set

BUFFALO, New York—The Mount Union men's volleyball team went on the road and upset No. 18 nationally ranked Buffalo State ,25-18, 18-25, 25-22, 20-25 and 16-14, in five sets Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Purple Raiders (9-11) were led by Maddox Snyder (Stow) with 13 kills with Michael Bowler (Broadview Heights / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) picking up nine kills.
 
Drew Stein (Columbus / Olentangy Orange) and Justin Peters (Pittsburgh, PA / Canon-McMillan) shared the setter duties picking up 13 and 12 assists respectively while Luke Pemberton (Jackson) led the way with 11 digs.
 
Buffalo State (20-3) was led by Gavin Wilczewski with 22 kills, Drew Bowman with 45 assists and Xzavier Vanderstouw with 10 digs.
 
In the first set of the match Mount Union was very efficient with 11 kills on 20 swings with just one error while Buffalo State finished with 10 kills on 27 swings and six errors.
 
Set two Buffalo State found its rhythm with 13 kills on 27 swings with just three errors while Mount Union hit negative with just four kills and six errors in the set.
 
Mount Union came back in the third set with a victory as they had 13 kills and four errors on 33 swings and Buffalo State finished the set with 15 kills, five errors on 34 swings.
 
The back-and-forth match kept going into the fourth set as Buffalo State had 12 kills and just two errors on 28 swings while Mount Union had just seven kills, three errors on 31 swings.
 
The final set saw Buffalo State have more kills with 10 while Mount Union had six but Mount Union had three less hitting errors in the set which was the difference.
 
Mount Union remains on the road heading to Huntingdon, Pa. on Saturday, March 14th at 11 am and 1:30 pm taking on No. 4 Juniata and Stevenson.
