Women's Lacrosse: Raiders Win Low Scoring Matchup Against Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's lacrosse team picked up an 8-6 victory over Ohio Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.

Mount Union was on its third straight day of competition (2 Games) due to a lightning delay which made one game last Thursday and Friday but was able to pull out another victory on Saturday.

The Purple Raiders (4-4, 1-0 OAC) were led by Haylee Handrahan with three goals and two assists.

Mae Pawlikowski finished the day with two goals with Emma Kielbasa, Emma Labbe and Mackenzie Brown each picking up a goal.

Ella Nejad picked up six draw control wins with Kaitlyn Kuczinski picking up four groundballs and making four saves in 30 minutes of play. Abby Reagan was in goal for the remaining 30 minutes of play, making seven saves for the Raiders.

Ohio Wesleyan (6-2) was led by Brie Colangelo with three goals and Morgan Leeper made 10 saves.

Both teams' defenses came to play in the first quarter as a Handrahan goal was the only goal for the first quarter letting Mount Union lead 1-0 after one.

The second quarter both offenses got going as Ohio Wesleyan began the quarter with a goal but Handrahan responded with two more goals taking a 3-1 lead. Ohio Wesleyan got a goal but Kielbasa responded with 48 seconds remaining taking a 4-2 lead into the halftime break.

Pawlikowski came out of the break with a goal for Mount Union pushing the lead out to 5-2 but Ohio Wesleyan responded with a goal. Labbe and Pawlikowski scored within a minute of each other as Mount Union's defense shut out Ohio Wesleyan the rest of the quarter taking a 7-3 lead into the fourth.

Ohio Wesleyan outscored Mount Union 3-1 in the final quarter as Brown scored for Mount Union to keep the lead away from Ohio Wesleyan.

Mount Union gets a much deserved two rest days before heading to New Wilmington, PA to take on Westminster (PA) on Tuesday at 5:30 PM.
