Softball: Mount Union Set to Host NCAA Tournament Regional

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's softball team will be hosting a NCAA Tournament Regional for the first time in program history taking place from Thursday, May 14 to Saturday, May 16 at the 23rd Street Field in Alliance.

The Purple Raiders will host Christopher Newport, Penn College and Lebanon Valley in the regional, where Christopher Newport and Penn College will take each other on in the first round and Mount Union will take on Lebanon Valley.

The Purple Raiders earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament after going 29-6 on the season, including 15-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play where they earned their third OAC Regular Season Title in four seasons, this also marks the fourth straight season that Mount Union has made it to the NCAA Tournament, the longest streak in program history.

Christopher Newport also earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament after going 28-11 on the season and beating Mary Washington in the Coast-to-Coast Conference Championship game. 

Penn College earned the automatic qualifying bid from the United East Conference, they went 33-7 overall on the season and 14-2 in conference play. 

Lebanon Valley also earned an automatic qualifying bid after winning the MAC Freedom Championship, they went 26-15 overall on the season and 10-4 in conference play.
