ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's women's lacrosse team is back in the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament and will travel to Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland to take on Union (NY) College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday afternoon.
Mount Union and Union (NY) will be the opening round contest at Sea Gull Stadium with the game taking place on Saturday, May 9 at 11:30 a.m., with the winner advancing to face the host Salisbury on Sunday, May 10 at 1 p.m.
This will be the first matchup for Mount Union versus Union (NY). Mount Union has also never taken on Salisbury so that would be a first as well for the Purple Raiders.
Mount Union advanced to the NCAA Tournament after earning the Ohio Athletic Conference's automatic qualifying bid with an 11-10 last second victory over Baldwin Wallace this weekend. The Purple Raiders are 12-5 on the season. They will be making their second straight and ninth overall trip the NCAA Tournament this weekend and have played four different tournament teams this season.
Union (NY) earned one of the last at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament after a 13-6 campaign where they lost in their Championship game against #5 William Smith 13-8. They will be competing in the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in program history and its first since 2015.
Salisbury is a part of the Coast-to-Coast conference which does not receive an automatic bid but earned the top bid as they went 17-0 in the season. They are making the NCAA tournament for the 23rd consecutive season (25th title overall). They have made 10 NCAA Championships and have won four titles in 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2021.
