Both teams rallied in week one but were eventually held off by nationally ranked opponents. Mount Union lost to No. 5 Wheaton after its PAT was blocked with 22 seconds remaining, and Wheaton held on for a 24-23 win, while Grove City was down 28-3 in the fourth quarter to No. 23 Cortland but lost 28-18. In last year's matchup, the Purple Raiders won convincingly, 49-14, at Grove City. Mount QB Mikey Maloney threw for 305 yards and two touchdowns, to go along with a rushing touchdown. Saturday's meeting will be the 10th overall, with the Purple Raiders holding an 8-0-1 record in the series. Prior to last season, all of the meetings were in the 1970s, with the first being September 26, 1970 (Mount won 21-18).
