#12 Raiders Double Up Wilmington

Mount Union's softball team (24-4, 9-1 OAC) swept a doubleheader with visiting Wilmington (3-24, 0-8 OAC) on Saturday, April 14 at 23rd Street Field in Alliance, Ohio. The Raiders took both games by a score of 10-2 in six innings.

In game one, the Raiders busted out for five runs in the third after two were out. Catcher Crystal Thomas started things with a two-run single that was soon followed by back-to-back homers from pitcher Lindsey Royer and first baseman Amanda Yackmack.

Wilmington got a pair in the sixth to bring the score to 7-2. However, Thomas would blast a three-run homer to left, ending the contest due to the eight-run rule.

Royer (18-3) tossed six innings and struck out five en route to winning her 15th consecutive decision on the year.

Overall at the plate, Thomas was for 2-for-4 with three runs and five RBI, Royer was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI, and Yackmack was 1-for-2 with two RBI.

On the season, Mount Union has 15 home runs as a team. That number ties the old school mark set in 2005.

Box Score

Wilmington opened the scoring in game two with an unearned run in the first. The Raiders then answered with five runs in the third. RBI hits from second baseman Lee Negrelli and Royer, combined with a three-run passed ball and error accounted for the rally.

The Quakers cut the lead to 7-2 as they did in game one. The Raiders followed suit and scored three times in the sixth, ending the contest early.

Katie Harmon improved to 4-1 on the season, tossing six innings with only one earned run.

Offensively, Mount Union was led by Negrelli, who was 2-for-3 with two RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases. Centerfielder Cortney Frederick also collected two hits and an RBI while shortstop Carissa Prince, Royer, Yackmack, and right fielder Meghan Allen all drove in runs.
