#8 Raider Softball Team Splits With Capital

Mount Union (18-4, 3-1 OAC) split a doubleheader with visiting Capital (12-10, 3-1 OAC) on Tuesday, April 3 at 23rd Street Field in Alliance, Ohio. The Raiders won the opener 3-2 then fell 5-2 in the second game.

In game one, Capital got on the board with an unearned run in the second, which was countered in the bottom of the inning when Raider designated hitter Karly Tennant singled home centerfielder Cortney Frederick.

The Crusaders came back with a run in the fourth that broke Raider starter Lindsey Royer's streak of 34 innings without allowing an earned run. Mount Union answered back in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single from third baseman Anna Horning, tying the score at two apiece.

The Lady Raiders scored the game's deciding run when pinch runner Lee Negrelli scored on an error in the fifth inning.

Royer (15-3) tossed a complete game, allowing seven hits, one earned run, and one walk, while striking out six. Second baseman Katie Harmon led the Raider offensive effort with a 3-for-3 performance.

Mount Union's 11th consecutive victory tied the school mark set in 1990. In '90, the Purple & White won 20 of 21 games at one point and set a Raider single-season record with 31 total wins.
