The Purple Raiders went scoreless the first 6:30 of the game,
but trailed only 4-0, when LaRon Marshall (Cleveland/Collinwood)
hit a layup.
Mount Union would quickly tie the game and held an 8-7 lead when
they would go on a 16-6 surge over the next seven minutes capped by
a Ben Hodkinson (Tippecanoe/Harrison Central) three-pointer
to give the Raiders a 24-13 lead.
The lead would expand to 15 points when Matt Weir (New
Castle/Mohawk) scored a layup and the Raiders took a 35-20 lead
into halftime.
The second half was more of the same as Mount Union would extend
the lead to 25 points, 73-48 with 1:36 left in
cruising to the 73-53 final.
Sophomore Jimmy Wood (Wintersville/Indian Creek) scored a
career-high 18 points, Dave Pellerite (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls)
had 17 points and Hodkinson had 12 to lead Mount
Union.
Westminster (0-1) was led by Max Spinner with 16
points.
Mount Union (1-0) hits the road this weekend playing Saturday
and Sunday at the Adrian Tip-Off Tournament in Adrian,
Michigan. The Raiders play Defiance Saturday at 6pm.
