(KISSIMMEE, FL)--Mount Union College sophomore Kellie Schmucker (Louisville/Marlington) pitched a complete-game two-hitter in a 4-1 victory over Albion (MI) College Thursday at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, FL.
In the second game of the day, the Purple Raiders were held to only two hits themselves in a 3-0 loss to Simpson (IA) College to bring their record to 5-3 so far on the season.
Schmucker faced only four batters over the minimum and struck out three as she posted her first win of the season.
Mount Union scored two runs in the fourth inning on a two-out single down the left field line by Anna Horning (Cuyahoga Falls/Woodridge).
The Raiders tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the seventh on an RBI double from Mara Polombaro (Boardman/Cardinal Mooney) and an RBI single from Ashley Henriques (Canton/GlenOak).
Albion avoided the shut out with a Tate Kern home run in the bottom of the seventh.
Mount Union plays Simpson and the US Merchant Marine Academy Friday in Kissimmee.
