(ALLIANCE, OH)--Mount Union College's softball team scored 2-0 and 10-1 victories over Ohio Wesleyan University in the final non-conference games of the 2009 season Monday at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
The Purple Raiders have now won four games in a row and stand at 19-13 on the season, while Ohio Wesleyan falls to 16-9-1 overall.
Game one was scoreless when Mara Palombaro (Boardman/Cardinal Mooney) led off the sixth inning for Mount Union with a single. After an out, Ashley Henriques (Canton/GlenOak) doubled to put runners at second and third. After a second out, Stephanie Cain (Akron/Springfield Local) would score Palombaro on an RBI single. Henriques, who moved to third on the hit then scored on a wild pitch to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead.
Bre Willis (Navarre/Fairless) would then pitch a 1-2-3 seventh to finish off a complete game four-hitter for the victory.
Mount Union did not wait as long to get the offense going in game two as Palombaro and Henriques would drive in single runs and Amanda Pool (Bergholz/Edison) would have two RBI single all in the first inning for a 4-0 lead.
The Raiders tacked on two more runs in the second on an Anna Horning (Cuyahoga Falls/Woodridge) two-run home run to make it 6-0.
Ohio Wesleyan would score a single run in the third, but Mount Union would put two more runs on the board in the fourth on RBI singles from Horning and Meghan Simons (Minerva/Minerva) extending the lead to 8-1.
Mount Union would end the game in the fifth inning as Jill Rader (Ashland/Ashland) had her first home run of the season, a two-run shot, to make the final 10-1.
Gia Mauer (Chardon/Chardon) went the distance pitching for her third consecutive win.
Horning went 5-for-6 on the day to lead the Raiders at the plate.
Mount Union returns to Ohio Athletic Conference play Wednesday at 3:30 pm at Marietta then returns home Saturday at 1 pm against Otterbein in the regular season home finale.
