PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- The No. 11 ranked Mount Union women's basketball team will resume its season when it takes part in the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Invitational at St. John Fisher (N.Y.) this weekend.
In a tournament semifinal, the Purple Raiders (1-0) and Union (N.Y.) will do battle on Saturday at 6 p.m. The contest will be an opener for the Dutchwomen.
In its season-opening win over Westminster (Pa.), Mount Union was led by Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake), who had 18 points and four steals.
Brittany Kilgore (Northfield/Nordonia) added 15 points while Taylor Hartung (Canton/Massillon Perry) and Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) put in 11 and 10 points, respectively, in the win.
Union, which went 7-17 overall and 5-9 in the Liberty League last season, is led by seniors Lauren McCormick and Leah Pepe. McCormick averaged 13.7 points and 7.3 rebounds in 2009-10 while Pepe put in 9.5 points per game.
In the other tournament semifinal, host St. John Fisher will take on D'Youville (N.Y.).
A member of the Empire 8, St. John Fisher has suffered non-conference losses to Cortland (N.Y.) and Oneonta (N.Y.).
Fisher senior Colleen Maloney is averaging 19.5 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks per game.
D'Youville (N.Y.), of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, lost games to Buffalo State (N.Y.) and Oswego (N.Y.) before earning its first win over Eastern Nazarene (Mass.).
Four different D'Youville players are scoring in double-figures: Kaitlyn Roland (15.0), Hannah Norton (15.0), Kay York (12.0) and Holly Beats (11.7). Beats has also grabbed 10.7 rebounds per contest.
The tournament will finish on Sunday afternoon with consolation and championship games.
