(PANAMA CITY, FL)--Mount Union's softball team scored a 4-1 win over Moravian (PA) and took an 8-3 loss to Lake Forest (IL) in the final day of the NFCA Leadoff Classic Sunday in Panama City, Florida.
Freshman pitcher Rachel McAninch (West Jefferson/West Jefferson) improved to 3-0 with her best outing of the season as she hurled a complete game six-hitter with six strikeouts in the 4-1 win against Moravian.
Junior catcher Mara Palombaro (Boardman/Cardinal Mooney) had an RBI single that capped off a two-run fourth inning and gave the Raiders the lead for good.
Palombaro had a two-run home run in the first inning against Lake Forest, but the offense dried up in an 8-3 loss to Lake Forest.
Mount Union finishes the southern trip with a 7-3 record and the Raiders are scheduled to play three home series this week Wednesday at 3 pm against Walsh, Thursday at 3 pm against Malone and Saturday at 2 pm against Trine (IN).
