(ALLIANCE, OH)--Mount Union's softball team finished a six-game homestand with a 3-3 record after salvaging a split Saturday against Trine (IN) with a 4-3 win in game two. The Thunder won the opener 6-1 at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
With the score tied 1-1 in the game two, senior Meghan Simons (Minerva/Minerva) and sophomore Ashley Henriques (Canton/GlenOak) led off the bottom of the fifth inning with back-to-back homers to give Mount Union a 3-1 lead.
Trine got one of those runs back in the top of the sixth, before Alex Lucak answered with a home run to make it 4-2.
In the top of the seventh, the Thunder scored a run and had the tying run at third before Rachel McAninch (West Jefferson/West Jefferson) got a strikeout to end the game. The strikeout would be one of six on the day for McAninch, who got the complete game victory to improve to 5-0 on the season.
In game one, Mount Union was held to a season-low three hits, while sophomore pitcher Bre Willis (Navarre/Fairless) went the distance but gave up six runs on nine hits. Willis did try to help her own cause as she hit a double then would later come around to score that tied the game at 1-1, but five unanwesred runs in the fifth put the game away, 6-1.
The Raiders go on the road playing at Ohio Wesleyan next Wednesday March 24th at 3:30pm in Delaware, Ohio.
