Softball Finishes Non-Conference Slate With Split at Allegheny

(MEADVILLE, PA)--Junior Alex Lucak (Maple Heights/Trinity) drove in four runs and freshman Rachel McAninch (West Jefferson/West Jefferson) pitched a complete game and allowed only run in a 7-1 victory that salvaged a split at Allegheny (PA) Tuesday in Meadville, PA.  Allegheny won the opener 6-5 in 8 innings.

Lucak drove in two runs in the opener to give her six on the day and a team-best 20 RBI on the season, while McAninch scattered seven hits to improve to 7-0 on the season.

It was the third split in a row for the Purple Raiders, who finish their non-conference schedule at 12-8 overall, while Allegheny is 8-6 on the season.

In the opener, Mount Union plated a run in the first inning on an RBI single from Jill Rader (Ashland/Ashland), Allegheny scored a pair of runs in the second to take a 2-1 lead and the Raiders tied the game with as Lucak forced in a run on a fielders choice.

Allegheny would retake the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth and single run in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead.

The Raiders would rally again with two runs in the sixth as Meghan Simons (Minerva/Minerva) drove in a run with a double then later came around to score on a wild pitch and tie things up on an RBI triple from Lucak in the seventh.

Sara Doan would finally win the game for Allegheny with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the eighth.

Mount Union used the long ball in game two as Mara Palombaro (Boardman/Cardinal Mooney) broke open a scoreless game in the fourth with a two-run homer to make it 2-0.

Lucak hit a two-run shot of her own and Anna Horning (Cuyahoga Falls/Woodridge) had a RBI single in a three-run fifth to extend the lead to 5-0.

Lucak finished her day with a two-RBI double in the seventh to finish the scoring for the Raiders.

All of this was more than enough for McAninch, whose only blemish was a two-out RBI in the sixth to plate a single run as he struck out seven to stay perfect on the season.

Mount Union opens Ohio Athletic Conference play tomorrow at 3:30 pm at Heidelberg in Tiffin, Ohio.
