(ALLIANCE, OH)--Mount Union's softball team belted out 25 hits, blasted three homers and got two strong pitching performances in sweep of Muskingum in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
Mount Union has now won three games in a row to go to 15-11 overall and even its OAC record at 3-3, while Muskingum falls to 13-13 overall and 3-3 in the OAC.
Senior shortstop Meghan Simons (Minerva/Minerva) had three hits and drove in four runs including her team-leading sixth home run of the season.
Junior designated player Meghan Allen (Hartville/Lake) also got into the act as she hit her first home run of the season, a two-run shot, that sparked a three-run sixth inning that put away a 9-3 win in the first game.
The Purple Raiders had 13 hits which was more than enough for sophomore Bre Willis (Navarre/Fairless) who had her best outing of the season as she pitched a complete-game six hitter to improve to 5-6 on the season.
In the second game, freshman Rachel McAninch (West Jefferson/West Jefferson) hurled her third shutout of the season and improved her record to 9-1 on the season to lead Mount Union to a 4-0 win in the second game.
Junior second baseman Alex Lucak (Maple Heights/Trinity) went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Allen had her second home run of the day to lead an offense that pounded out 12 hits.
Mount Union next travels to Baldwin-Wallace for an OAC doubleheader Wed., April 14 at 3:30 pm at the Cuyahoga County Fairgounds in Berea.
