(WILMINGTON, OH)--Freshman Rachel McAninch (West Jefferson/West Jefferson) pitched a complete-game two-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead No. 23 Mount Union to an 8-0 six inning win in game two of an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Friday at Wilmington. The Quakers posted a 3-2 come from behind win in game one.
In the win, McAninch improved to 8-1 on the season, senior Anna Horning (Cuyahoga Falls/Woodridge) had three hits and drove in three runs, freshman Alex Mayo (Greenville/Ansonia) had three hits while senior Meghan Simons (Minerva/Minerva) had two RBI.
The split leaves the Purple Raiders at 13-11 overall and 1-3 in the OAC, while Wilmington is 7-9 overall and 1-3 in the OAC.
Mount Union led 2-0 in the first game when Wilmington's Julianne Minnich hit a three run home run to send the Quakers to a 3-2 victory.
Horning and Alex Lucak (Maple Heights/Trinity) each had two hits and the Raiders were held to six for the game.
Mount Union returns home to host Muskingum next Saturday, April 10, at 1 pm at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
