SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- No. 24 ranked Mount Union suffered a close loss to No. 18 ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater in the consolation semifinals of the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals Sunday morning in Springfield, Ill.
Mount Union will now take on No. 7 ranked St. John's (Minn.) in the seventh place match. The two teams met yesterday with the Purple Raiders winning 20-19.
Mount Union won four matches highlighted by a pin at 285 from All-American senior Derick Hesson (Dexter City/Caldwell). The Raiders also got decisions from seniors Josh Malave (Rocky River/Lutheran West) at 141 and Kevin Shadrach (Parma/Parma) at 149 along with junior Jeremy Hathaway (Cuyahoga Falls/Woodridge) at 174.
The match turned on a pair of narrow Whitewater wins at 125 (5-2) and 184 (5-3).
