KISSIMMEE, Fla - - The Mount Union softball team split a pair of games for the second straight day as it defeated Geneva (Pa.) 1-0 and fell to the Coast Guard Academy (Ct.) 4-1 Tuesday  in Kissimmee Florida. 

Freshman Andi VanSickle (Loudonville/Loudonville) gave the Raiders a 1-0 advantage in the fourth inning as she singled home freshman Tara Spencer (Loveland/Loveland). Earlier in the inning, sophomore Leigh Siedlak (Westerville/Westerville South) reached first base and advanced to third on an error by the center fielder. Spencer then replaced her as a pinch runner on third base. 

Sophomore Michelle Stiltner (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) got her first victory of the season and pitched 4.1 scoreless inning allowing four hits while striking out two. 

Senior Rachel McAninch (West Jefferson/West Jefferson) picked up her first save of the year as she pitched 2.2 innings in relief allowing just three hits and striking out five. 

The Golden Tornadoes had the bases loaded in the top of the seven innings with two outs but MacAnich got Fuqua to pop out to pick up the victory for the Raiders. 

VanSickle got the first start of her career against the Coast Guard Academy and pitched 3 innings allowing two earned runs on three hits with one strike out. 

Senior Kristen Gromes (Navarre/Fairless) drove in the Raiders only run of the game in the top of the fifth inning as she singled to drive in senior Alex Mayo (Greenville/Ansonia). Earlier in the fifth inning, Mayo and senior Rachel Jesso (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant) had back-to-back walks advancing Mayo to second base and putting Jesso on first. 

Mount Union (2-2) returns to action Tuesday with two more games where they will face Greensboro (N.C.) at 11:00 a.m. and Lake Forest (Ill.) at 3:00 p.m.
