McAninch Throws Second Straight No-Hitter; Raiders Spilt Final Two Games Of Spring Trip

KISSIMMEE, Fla - - Mount Union's women's softball team split its final two games of its spring trip as it defeated Anderson (Ind.) 1-0 and fell to Augsburg (Minn.) 9-8 Saturday in Kissimee, Florida.

With the split, Mount Union is 10-3 on the season.  

Senior Rachel McAninch (West Jefferson/West Jefferson) recorded her sixth victory of the season as she threw her second consecutive no-hitter in the Raiders victory over Anderson. 

The game's only run came in the bottom of the sixth inning when sophomore Leigh Siedlak (Westerville/Westerville South) hit her second home run of the season to put the Raiders up 1-0. 

Against Ausburg, the Raiders would take advantage of two Auggies errors to score three runs to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning. 

The Auggies would answer back with five runs on five hits as they would lead 5-3 after three innings. 

Allyson Ruedy homered in the bottom of the fourth and Augsburg would lead 6-3 after four innings. 

Senior Kristen Gromes (Navarre/Fairless) belted her second home run of the season over the left field fence in the top of the fourth inning to cut the defecit to 6-4. 

Augsburg would add three more runs in the sixth inning as Emily Smith doubled to drive in two runs and would later score on an error as they would lead 9-4 after six innings. 

The Raiders would add four more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Gromes and senior Marissa Earl (Massillon/Washington) had back-to-back RBI's. Gromes would later score on a wild pitch and freshman Megan Okuda (Gibsonia, Pa/Pine-Richland) singled to drive in Earl but the Raiders would fall 9-8.  

Amanda Eaton takes the victory for Augsburg as she entered the game in the top of the third inning and allowed one run on one hit and struck out five. 

Mount Union travels to Case Western Reserve University Wednesday for a doubleheaders with the first game schedule to start at 3:00 p.m. and the second at 5:00 p.m.
