Men's Lacrosse Blanks Houghton (NY) 23-0 In Final Home Game Of 2013 Season

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's lacrosse team defeated Houghton 23-0 Saturday afternoon at Mount Union Stadium in the 2013 season home game finale.

The Purple Raiders (6-6) were led by freshman Hogan Harris (Medina/Medina) who tallied eight points in the game with eight goals. Harris beat his previous record of six goals in a game against Franciscan (April 3rd). Harris now shares a tie for the team record of goals scored by a single player in a period with four goals sharing with teammate freshman Josh Bender (Delaware/Delaware Hayes) who scored four goals in the fourth period against Franciscan.

Freshman Michael Taylor (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) chipped in with seven points in the victory with two goals and five assists. Taylor now holds the most assists in a game by a Raider at five beating his previous best of four, which he achieved twice. 

The Highlanders (3-8) were led by Josh Haingray who tallied 10 saves on 17 shots while allowing seven goals. Josh Bailey recorded team high four ground balls for Houghton. 

Mount Union would score 10 goals in the first period led by Harris who had four of the 10 as the Raiders would set a new team record with most goals in a period. Mount Union's previous best was nine goals in a period when they scored nine in the fourth period against Franciscan. 

The Raiders would net four more goals in the second period to take the 14-0 lead into halftime. Mount Union would come out of the half and score six goals in the third period led by Harris with three goals. Mount Union would head to the fourth period with the shutout still in sight with a 20-0 lead.  

Mount Union would find the back of the net three more times in the fourth period going on for the 23-0 victory as freshman Collin Peters (Portland, Ore./Sunset) recorded four saves on four shots for the game. Peters recorded his first clean sheet in his college career and is 6-6 on the season in goal for the Raiders.

Mount Union will travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. to take on La Roche on Wednesday, April 24th at 4:00 pm.
