DEFIANCE, Ohio—An early lead for the Mount Union women's basketball team led to an 80-58 victory over Defiance Wednesday in Defiance.

The Purple Raiders (5-4) were led by senior Chandler Moore (Girard, Pa./Girard) scoring 12 points. Senior Nancy Osborne (North Canton/GlenOak) and junior Sarah Grippi (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) were other Raiders scoring in double figures finishing with 11points each, respectively.

Leading the way for Defiance (3-6) was Kelsey Tietje finishing the night with a double-double scoring 24 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Mount Union got off to an early lead in the first half scoring 25 of the games first 33 points—25-8—including four three pointers with Osborne and Moore scoring two each, as the Raiders would lead for the entire game.

The Raiders extended their lead to 22—10-32-- with 5:50 remaining in the first half shooting 51.5% from the floor as Defiance shot just 22.6%.

Defiance cut the lead to 15 after a 7-0 run with four minutes remaining in the first half before Mount Union entered the locker room with a 25 point lead, 44-19.

Mount Union opened the second half with a pair of three-pointers from Moore and Osborne again before Defiance went on another 7-0 run led by Tietje scoring five of the seven points in the run and scoring 16 of her game-high 24, in the second half.

The Raiders led by as many as 30 at the 4:12 mark shooting 48.0% from behind the arc before ending the game in an 80-58 victory.

Mount Union next hosts La Roche (Pa.) Saturday, Dec. 20 at 3 pm at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.
