Women's Basketball Completes Road Games at #23 Ohio Northern Saturday; WATCH LIVE

Mount Union's women's basketball team plays its final regular season road game of the season Saturday at 3 pm at Ohio Northern in Ada.

The Purple Raiders (11-11, 5-10 OAC) fell 62-55 at Muskingum this past Wednesday and are alone in sixth place in the conference.

Junior Chandler Moore (Girard, Pa./Girard) scored 16 points against the Muskies Wednesday and has scored in double figures in each of the last four games for Mount Union.

Sophomore Sarah Grippi (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) is second on the team in scoring at 9.1 points per game and leads the team in rebounds with 5.3 per game, while fellow sophomore Colleen Kennehan (Berlin Center/Western Reserve) leads the team in assists at 2.0 per game.

Ohio Northern (18-4, 11-4) is tied with Capital for second place in the conference and is on a six-game winning streak including a 62-54 victory over Heidelberg on Wednesday.

The Polar Bears are led by junior Jordan Kimes and is ranked third in the conference in scoring averaging 14.6 points per game and is ranked first in field goal percentage (59.7) and leads the team with 8.5 rebounds per game.

Senior Sara Kocian leads the conference in three-point percentage (52.7) and averages 6.6 points per game.

EARLIER THIS SEASON

The Raiders jumped out to a 12-4 lead, before the Polar Bears went on a 9-2 run to take a 23-22 lead at halftime.

Ohio Northern started the second half on a 10-5 surge to open up a 33-27 advantage but Mount Union rallied scoring seven of the next eight points to close the gap at 37-34.

The Polar Bears then outscored Mount Union 13-6 over the next 7:39 to lead 50-40. Annie Bova would score the next five straight points to pull the Raiders within five points – 50-45 but the Raiders would not score again as Ohio Northern went on for the 15-point victory.

COACHES

Suzy Venet (Mount Union '98) is 160-75 in her ninth season as head coach at her alma mater. Since taking over, she brought the Raiders back to being one of the nation's top programs, three OAC Tournament titles, two OAC regular season titles, and three straight trips to the NCAA tournament including to the Sweet 16 in 2010 and 2012. Venet was an All-American player at Mount Union during a time that included three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances with a second place finish in 1996.

Michele Durand (Bluffton '88) is 197-144 in her 13th season at Ohio Northern. The Polar Bears saw their best season as they went 27-2 and were the conference regular and tournament champions. The reached their highest ranking of No. 3 and appeared in the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time since 1988-89 season. Prior to taking over at Ohio Northern, Durand was the head coach at Bluffton for 11 years and was the school's all-time winningest coach.
