ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union women's lacrosse team defeated Kenyon 13-6 in their home opener Sunday at Mount Union Stadium.

The Purple Raiders (2-1) were led by Kolbie Haines (Hudson/Hudson) who tallied the lone hat trick for the Raiders and had five groundballs, while Susie Kraus (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) had six ground balls, notched two goals and two assists.

Kenyon (4-1) was lead by Caroline Shipman with four goals and five ground balls.

The Raiders wasted no time, setting a new record, scoring in nine seconds as Katherine Doraty (Medina/Medina) won the draw control and took it to the net. Kenyon responded 39 seconds later when Shipman scored on a free position shot, followed by a goal by Amy Morgan to give the Ladies' a 2-1 lead.

The Raiders tallied two more goals to take a 3-2 lead, before Kenyon tied the game at 3 with 15:20 left in the first half. Mount Union notched six more goals before the half, to take an 8-5 lead into the locker room.

Mount Union opened the second half scoring four goals to take a 12-5 lead, which saw Haines tally her hat trick at the 16:08 mark from Emily Bergert (North Canton/Hoover). Kenyon scored their final goal with 12:33, as the Raiders led 12-6, before Taylor Pensyl (Kent/Kent Roosevelt) would tally the final goal of the game as the Raiders went on for the 13-6 victory.

The Raiders outshot Kenyon 34-18, while Casey McHenry (Hudson/Hudson) had eight saves between the pipes for Mount Union.

Mount Union travels to Bethany (W.Va) College to faceoff against Franciscan College at 4 pm on Wednesday March 19.
