Box Score 2 ALLIANCE, Ohio- Mount Union's women's softball team won a pair of games, 3-0 and 6-5, in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against Capital Saturday at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
Mount Union seniors Shelby Carmichael (Dalton/Dalton) and Krista Leighty (Wooster/Triway) were honored during the doubleheader.
Carmichael had five hits including a home run and drove in two runs on the day while Leighty had three hits and drove in a run as well.
The wins move Mount Union to 12-12-1 overall and 6-6 in the OAC while Capital falls to 16-14-0 and 3-9 in the OAC on the season.
The Purple Raiders got the early lead in game one after Megan Okuda (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) hit a double to center field scoring Carmichael from first after an error by the center fielder.
In the bottom of the second the Raiders kept the bats alive as Leigh Siedlak (Westerville/ Westerville South) hit a lead-off triple followed by a Lindsey Gerhart (Westerville/ Westerville South) bunt single RBI. Logan Lehman (Orrville/ Orrville) singled to center field scoring Siedlak and advanced Gerhart to third. Gerhart came in to score off an Olivia Schumacher (Gahanna/ Gahanna Lincoln) ground out, to make the score 3-0.
Mount Union pitcher Michelle Stiltner (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) made those three runs stand up as she threw a complete game shutout for the victory.
In game two, the Raiders trailed 5-4 going into the bottom of the seventh.
Lehman doubled with one out was then lifted for pinch runner Torie Gable (Norton/Norton), who then scored in the ensuing at-bat off an RBI double from Leighty. Leighty would come around to score the game winner off a walk-off single by Jessica Moracz (Westlake/Westlake).
The game started with Capital taking a 2-0 lead in the first taking advantage of three Mount Union errors.
Carmichael blasted her third home run of the season -- a two-run shot to center field -- in the bottom of the first to even the score at 2-2.
The Raiders took the lead in the second on an RBI double from Moracz.
The Crusaders would score a run in the third and two in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead.
Mount Union closed the gap to 5-4 in the sixth off an RBI single from Andi Vansickle (Loudonville/Loudonville).
Stiltner came on in relief and allowed only four hits over the final four innings to get the win pitching for the Raiders.
The Raiders next play Muskingum in an Ohio Athletic Conference series Tuesday at 3:00 pm in New Concord.
