Women's Lacrosse: Mount Union Makes Its Way To Title Game With 15-6 Win Over Capital in OAC Tournament

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- No. 1 seed Mount Union beat No. 4 seed Capital 15-6 in the semifinals of the 2014 Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Tournament Tuesday at Mount Union Stadium.

The Purple Raiders, 15-2 overall, have now won 15-straight home games and will host the OAC Tournament Championship game Saturday at 1 pm against the winner of a semifinal Wednesday against No. 2 seed Baldwin Wallace and No. 3 seed Otterbein.

Mount Union sophomore Susie Kraus (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) matched her season-high with four goals while sophomores Katherine Doraty (Medina/Medina) and Emily Bergert (North Canton/Hoover) each had three goals to lead the offense.

On defense, sophomore Kolbie Haines (Hudson/Hudson) had six ground balls and three caused turnovers while sophomore goalie Casey McHenry (Hudson/Hudson) had six saves in the win.

Korri Titus had three goals to lead Capital, which finished its first season at 10-6 overall.

Bergert got Mount Union on the board with a free position shot just 21 seconds into the game, while Titus tied the game for Capital 25 seconds later.

Doraty and Kraus each cracked the scoring column to give the Raiders a 3-1 lead just over five minutes into the game.

Capital again rallied to the tie game with a pair of goals to knot the game at 3-3 at the 19:57 mark.

Mount Union finished the half scoring three of the next four goals finished off by a man-down goal from Bergert with 2:32 left in the period as Mount Union took a 6-4 lead at the half.

Taylor Pensyl (Kent/Kent Roosevelt) scored 51 seconds into the second half and the Raiders outcored Capital, 6-1 over the first 24 minutes of the half to take a commanding 12-5 lead.
