Men's Basketball: Purple Raiders Stay Undefeated in the OAC With Win Over Heidelberg on Wednesday

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Mount Union men's basketball team stays undefeated in the Ohio Athletic Conference after a 100-90 win over Heidelberg on Wednesday.

The Purple Raiders (9-3, 5-0 OAC) were led by Cody Dillon (Newton Falls/Newton Falls) with a season-high 22 points. DeAllen Jackson (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) was 7-of-9 from the field and scored 17 points.

Mount Union got 14 points apiece from Nate Jacubec (Struthers/Struthers) and Stevie Griffin (Canton/Massillon Jackson), while Taylor Moore (North Canton/Hoover) chipped in with 13 points off the bench.

Ben Jones led Heidelberg (5-7, 1-4 OAC) with a career-high 21 points and Jackson Blue added 18 points in defeat.

Heidelberg made six of their first seven shots to take its largest lead of the game 17-8 with 15:43 left in the first half. The Raiders took control of the game with a 16-0 run, part of a larger 31-5 run, and led 39-22 with 7:28 before halftime.

The Student Princes battled back, scoring 10 of the last 15 points of the first half, and trailed by 11 points, 54-43 at the half.

Mount Union could not regain the momentum early in the second half as the Student Princes went on a 10-2 run to open the period. Heidelberg cut the lead to one 61-60 but could not complete the comeback and take the lead.

The Raiders opened a lead with a 7-0 run, capped off by one of Dillon's four three-pointers, to take an 89-79 lead with 3:32 remaining in the game. The 10-point lead remained steady and ended up being the final margin of victory.  

The men's basketball team returns to Alliance, Ohio, to play Wilmington on Saturday, January 10 at 3pm in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
