SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The No. 20 Mount Union women's lacrosse team improved to 9-0 on the season with a 12-9 win over Wittenberg on Tuesday afternoon.

The Purple Raiders (9-0) were led by the trio of Katherine Doraty (Medina/Medina), Taylor Pensyl (Kent/Kent Roosevelt) and Susie Kraus (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) all of who scored three goals.

Casey McHenry (Hudson/Hudson) started in goal for the Raiders and made six saves in the win.

Wittenberg (5-2) was led by Becca Jospeh who scored two goals and handed out three assists.

Katie Rueter made five saves and allowed all 12 Mount Union goals in the loss.

Wittenberg got the scoring started with the first goal of the game 3:41 into the game. This would prove to be the Tigers last lead of the game as the Raiders scored five unanswered goals to lead 5-1 with 15:09 left in the first half.

Both teams were held scoreless for the next dozen minutes before Wittenberg found the net to cut the lead to three goals. Pensyl scored her second goal of the game in the final minute of the half to make the lead 6-2 at the break.

Pensyl and Doraty scored back-to-back goals to open the second half and take their biggest lead of the game, 8-2. The two teams traded goals, each scoring three times, in the next 10 minutes to make the score 11-5 with 19:10 remaining.

Wittenberg scored four of the games last five goals but its comeback came up short and Mount Union ran out the clock with a 12-9 win.

The women's lacrosse team starts Ohio Athletic Conference play on Friday at 7:00 pm as the Raiders host Capital at Mount Union Stadium in Alliance.
