Women's Lacrosse: Mount Union Wins Second Straight OAC Title; Raiders Top Seed in OAC Tourney

ALLIANCE, Ohio - The No. 18 Mount Union's women's lacrosse team defeated John Carroll 18-5 to clinch their second straight Ohio Athletic Conference championship and secure the number one seed in the OAC Tournament.

The Purple Raiders (15-0, 5-0 OAC) were led by Katherine Doraty (Medina/Medina) who scored five goals and added a pair of assists while Taylor Pensyl (Kent/Kent Roosevelt) scored four goals and had an assist in the win.

Casey McHenry (Hudson/Hudson) made four saves in goal while allowing five goals.

John Carroll (9-4, 3-2 OAC) was led by Grace Curatolo who scored three goals and Gina Vilsack who scored twice. Mary Jo Murino made five saves in goal for the Blue Streaks.

Before the game Mount Union honored Kolbie Haines (Hudson/Hudson) and Erika Druzina (Kirtland/Lake Catholic) in their last regular season home game. 

Mount Union scored within the first minute of the game on its way to a 9-0 lead with 5:40 left in the half. John Carroll got its first goal with 4:58 to go in the half but the Raiders scored twice in the last minute, with the second being a Susie Kraus (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) buzzer beater, to lead 11-1 at the break.

The Blue Streaks opened the second half with a goal at the 28:33 mark before Mount Union tacked on four goals to take a 15-2 lead with 14:56 remaining.

The two teams scored three goals each with Haines ending the game with a goal in the final seconds.

With the win the women's lacrosse team clinched their second straight OAC championship and secured the number one seed in next weeks OAC Tournament. They will play their final regular season game on Saturday, April 25 at Wilmington at 1:00 pm.
